Current R&D-Projects

"Bio-Electrochemical Denitrification (BED)"

In the framework of the initiative "KMU Innovativ" System S&P® is cooperating with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) for research and development in the border area between energy production and wastewater treatment.

The German federal Ministry for Education and Research(BMBF) is sponsoring the project.

The main goals of this technology which is based on the microbial fuel cell:
· Optimisation of Nitrogen balance
· Optimisation of energy balance
· Optimisation of excess sludge balance

Concluded R&D-Projects

"Export-oriented R&D in the field of wastewater, core project A wastewater treatment"

As a partner in the joint project „export-oriented R&D in wastewater treatment“ System S&P® extended its researching and developing efforts on emerging markets by forming a new cooperation with the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany and the University of Delhi, India. Together, the flexibility and efficiency of a self sufficient, solar-driven biodisk system has been demonstrated.".

Project sponsor was the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, Germany as a part of the Helmholtz research society. The Forschungszentrum is acting on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Research, BMBF.

The following main goals were achieved:
· Proof and quantifying of treatment efficiency in correlation to wastewater temperature.
· Proof of autarkic operation of the wastewater treatment plant based on solar power in an island-operation mode.
· Proof of robust technology with good cleaning results.

The cooperation aimed at proofing high treatment efficiency at low energy consumption and non-uniform wastewater characteristics. These requirements have been scientifically demonstrated as the core advantages of the biodisk technology.
· Buffering of peak loads
· Easy extension potential by modular design
· Low area footprint
· High level of automation
· Simple treatment process
· Simple maintenace and service
· Re-use of the treated water
· Self sufficient energy supply by solar panels

The verification was done in cooperation with Universität Karlsruhe, Germany.
